How to clean a MacBook?

How to clean beneath a MacBook Pro's keyboard?

  • So, I accidentally spilled some (kinda a lot) of soda on my MacBook Pro.. The good news is, everything works fine! The keys don't even stick, they just don't feel 'springy' like they did before, if you know what I mean. Well I'm a computer tech.. By hobby and it's also my job title. But I work on PC's! Anyway, the only time I've opened my MacBook was to upgrade the memory; and I don't think I want to dig much deeper.. Is there a better way at cleaning underneath the keyboard than popping the whole thing open? Or could I take it in to an Apple store and have them do it? Btw, I have the extended Apple care plan. Thanks in advance.

  • Answer:

With the extended Apple care plan I would let them clean it. There is some risk in damaging the computer when clean it. I am a ex employee of HP and every tech has his or her own way. Like pull battery and the bios battery, up side down and wash with 90% alcohol. Dry with a hair dryer let set several hours dry again. One tech cleaned with soap and water. They had a lot of back up system boards and any thing they needed.. Oh, both of the above used a lot of compressed air too. Hey, I enjoyed your question, I have worked as a technician most of my life, I hope I have helped you... You may email me at [email protected] Good luck... CompTIA A+ Certified Computer Professional
