Why can't my computer can't detect my external hard drive?

Why cant my computer read this hard drive?

  • i just bought a brand new 2 terrabyte seagate hard drive, it was being detected but wasnt showing up in my computer so i had to format the drive, once i did this it was showing up in my computer and seem to be working fine, i then rebooted my computer and now it takes longer for the computer to start up, eg i get a black screen for about 10, 15 seconds when i first turn the power on, and takes longer for the computer to detect the drives, and it doesnt read the new seagate drive at all now

  • Answer:

Try updating the drivers (get them from Seagate) I would further suspect the BIOS needs to be upgraded in order to access the drive reliably. That is where I would start. Also, is this an external drive? You may want to boot with it disconnected since Windows will look for bootable partitions on all media during start up....takes awhile to search a 2Tb drive!
