Why doesn't my computer play dvds?

My computer recognizes my dvds but dosn't play them?

  • I got a computer a year ago and it was supposed to play dvds, i didn't really worry about it not running them until now when i want it to run dvds. It runs perfectly fine and the dvd spins up and my computer says it's there but it dosn't play it or give me an option to play it, help please.

Hi.. "supposed to play dvds " or just "Read DVD's " there's a difference. If you have a DVD decoder /program to play dvd's then going to computer ( Windows start key >Computer ) and clicking the DVD drive and selecting autoplay should give you an option to play. Or Set autoplay in control panel ...to display the autoplay dialogue box (Ask every time) when you put a disc in the drive or set an action to take place automatically when you put a DVD disc in the DVD drive. Windows start key > Control panel >Hardware & Sound > Autoplay... If you have no program / DVD decoder installed to play DVD movies then VLC player is free... http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ PS...... If you are just trying to play movie files not in standard DVD format or just want to copy , view or open any files on any DVD disc then. Right click the drive in computer and select "explore" or "Open"....
