Autodesk Maya 2012: Attaching a 'suit of fur' to a polygonal model...?
-
I’m pretty new to Maya (using Autodesk Maya 2012), but am attempting to rig a character that I made. I just successfully bound the skeleton and weighted it. All of that is working properly. Just going to provide some background info before I get to the question. My problem began when I was trying to group my nurbs together (they also had fur applied to them). For some reason, instead of hiding the fur in the display menu, I deleted it accidentally, and didn’t realize until after the entire process was finished. The only way I could group all of the body parts together was to make them polygons. So now I have one solid body made of polygons that has a working, decent skeleton, with no fur. I tried putting the fur back on like normal, but ran into issues (which I expected). The fur is going crazy directions in some places, not appearing at all in others: it looks nothing close to correct. On the original model, I applied fur to each individual section (since the fur on the ears should look a lot different than the fur on the body). Basically, I have two questions: Is there a way that I can apply fur to the whole body and change the settings for each area without losing any progress with my skeleton or model? If that isn’t possible, I have older save files of my project. I was able to export the “suit” fur to its own file by deleting the body (with some soft modification handle things that I can’t seem to get rid of from when I originally made the model). I imported it into the file with the bound skeleton, and it fits perfectly over top of the body. But then when I move any of the joints, the fur stays put. I can’t figure out how to bind it to the skin (if its even possible at all). Is what I’m trying to do a lost cause? Should I just restart before the binding process and apply the fur, THEN change it to polygons? If at all possible, please use simple wording with your explanation. I’m really new to Maya, so probably won’t understand anything complex =p
