How to prove you can modify/build a computer?

  • Now, Im looking at computer and my dad comes up and says, that computer doesnt have enough of *this,*this,and*that. When i mention that i am not spending $40 for 2 gb of ram and that im going to put the in myself if i get it he says :0 NOPE! Your not goanna do any of that, just buy that dang computer and spend the extra money. at this point this is me "-_-" Now ive been searching further and on all the websites i could leave something out (i.e. awesome graphics card) and save a bunch of money buying it aftermarket and taking 2 seconds to screw it in. Do they think it will explode if it doesnt work or something?

Assembling a PC is easy, but if you've never done it before and have never seen it done before, then there are some things that you might not think of that could potentially damage the components. I've seen people bend pins on the CPU because they mishandled it or forced it in, or turn on the machine without a heatsink. These can turn into expensive mistakes. But as long as you take you're willing to read and follow instructions and aren't afraid to ask questions, then there's no reason why you can't assemble your own machine. For your first attempt, however, I would highly suggest calling around to some of the PC stores in your area and ask if they hold any PC build parties, classes, or clinics that will teach you how to do it properly.
