How do I upload pics onto my computer with a memory card?

I have a desk top computer and I have to upload them by putting the card into a slot in the printer (Dell 984), but the pics aren't uploading onto the computer..

Your printer is designed to print those photos, not transfer them to your computer. Get a card reader instead. Or see if your dell has one.
