Where are some small towns in North Carolina?

What are good towns to live in in North Carolina?

  • Hello My fiancé and I are getting married in August. We currently live in Rhode Island. We are reluctant to settle down here because of the high cost of living. In Ri you need at least 300k to live in a decent home in a nice area. We have been contemplating moving to North Carolina after doing a bit of research. We'd prefer the better weather and lower cost of living and being able to make our dollArs stretch so we can live a better lifestyle. Im also exhausted of the go go go northern mentality and tired of working like its the only thing that mAtters, which is how all employers especially during a recession feel here. What are some nice areas that have job opportunities, great (not good) schools, nice neighborhoods with houses that have a bit of land ( after all we want to move out of Ri where houses are stacked in top of one another) and is close to a beach? The things I love about rI is that the entire state has tht small town feel and the beautiful coast line. Also there is an abundant of locally owned businesses. Which is important to us. We have looked into. Cary, Greensboro and Wilmington but we have recently heard that northerners have a hard time with locals in Nc and that they aren't accepting of transplants. Also I am worried about the schools, since I am used to really high levels in schools. Are their private schools? That's important to the town we live in because we'd like to start a family in the next 5 years. I currently work in international imports for a MArketing company but would love to start my own boutique. I wonder if locals are more open to people transplanting if they Eventually bring jobs to the community? One thing about Ri is that it is a very political state. It's all about who you know. Is it the sAme in nc? Would someone from out of town have a hard time opening a business and see a lot of red tape? My fiancé is going back to school and is interested in transferring to a college down there. He also works in the auto industry.
