Cool shops in San Francisco?

  • hey, im in san fran for 3 days and i need some suggestions. I dont want all the big brand clothes and mainstream shops, im looking for really cool shops. e.g, vintage shops, magic shops, trickster/prank/gag shops, comic shops, maybe even a cool clothes/shoes store? Thanks.

  • Answer:

If you want to escape from department store purgatory, you need to get far away from the Union Square area. Haight Street has a lot of eclectic and vintage shops (Amoeba Music, Booksmith, Aqua Surf Shop, Crossroads, Wasteland, Buffalo Exchange). You will find lots of products from Latin America in the Mission District. It is also home to the only remaining country western store in San Francisco. Japantown is a less touristy alternative to Chinatown if you are looking for Asian goods. Local designers tend to show off their latest creations on Union, Hayes, and 24th Streets. And the Ferry Building has become a great outlet for gourmet food. It is especially lively on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. These are the designated "market" days.

In addition to SFDude excellent answer I also urge you to check out Noe Valley -24 street from Castro to Church and Fillmore between Post and Jackson.

It's tacky, but there is a magic shop at Pier 39. It is touristy, but you'll have fun there.
