Japantown is a less touristy alternative to Chinatown if you are looking for Asian goods. Local designers tend to show off their latest creations on Union, Hayes, and 24th Streets. And the Ferry Building has become a great outlet for gourmet food. It is especially lively on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. These are the designated "market" days.
