How can i get my passport early?

I was born in US, parents born in Taiwan, how can I get a Taiwan(TW) passport?

  • I am 22 and was born in the US. Both my parents were born in Taiwan. I know for sure my dad recently renewed is TW passport last year, but I'm not sure if my mom has renewed hers. Therefore, I know for sure my dad is a dual citizen between Taiwan and the US. I have read in many places that I am eligible to also become a dual citizen if I get a TW passport. I am expecting to visit Taiwan often and for probably more than 30 days. Hence it would be very convenient for me to just have this passport and not worry about a visa for every visit. How can I go about applying for a TW passport?

  • Answer:

You're eligible for Taiwan ROC passport. You need to locate the TECO office near you to apply for it. Here is web page in traditional Chinese language - TECO office in SF: http://www.taiwanembassy.org/US/SFO/ct.asp?xItem=13147&ctNode=2997&mp=66 Here is web page in English language - TECO office in SF: http://www.taiwanembassy.org/US/SFO/ct.asp?xItem=63979&ctNode=3035&mp=67

Other answers

As you're over 20, in addition to the paperwork, background check, and health check, you need to get a special visa, and you have to live in Taiwan for a year continuously, or 270 days over two years. Keep in mind that if you're male, you may also be subject to mandatory conscription. If you think it's worth it, go ahead and use Martin's links.
