Does my extreme sensitivity effect my chances of being able to join the Armed Forces?
-
I am a girl. I am going to a really great high school after I graduate this June, where I could start getting my Associates Degree in the 10th grade. I am 5'10, at 14 already. I am a straight A student. So I feel as if I got the brains and the build to serve in Armed Forces, but I am really sensitive. If someone says the slightest joke, it brings me to tears and ruins my entire day. I see my sensitivity as an extreme weakness! I really want to join the Air Force after I graduate high school! But does my extreme sensitivity effect my chances of being able to join the Armed Forces? How do sensitive people get treated while in Armed Services? Thank you :D

Answer:
It's going to effect you greatly. From day 1 in basic training the staff Sergeants and everyone will be screaming at you. They will mess with your mind. Yes they are there to make you the best they can but if you can't stand one joke imagine some one screaming at you for a month and half ... and that's for basic training , you will need to get your emotions in check. If you cry first thing they will try and make you drop on demand. Hope it helps

If your a co-dependant and enabler, then the NCO's will use and abuse you because they know you have no boundaries. My husband NEVER allowed anyoen to tell him something he did not want to do, I don't know how he got away with it, I think they were just scared of him.

Don't be discouraged. I was a pretty sensitive person as a teenager, even in to my early 20's. The key is to basically develop a thicker skin, and to try and hide your sensitivity until that happens. You do not want to break down in boot camp. Not a good idea. It may be hard at times, but you must suppress your emotions on the spot. Get them out later, fine. But don't go off on anyone, don't become insubordinate, and don't cry. Let it toughen you up. I believe that you can do it, because I did it. One thing to remember is to not take the words of your drill instructors personally. They do get personal, and if you're a **** off to every level, then they do mean what they say, lol. But I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt that you are not inept, and can function as well as the average recruit. By what you have said, you are indeed EXTREMELY sensitive. Hon, perhaps you may want to talk to a counselor or therapist in regards to that. It sounds abnormally sensitive. I mean, even when I was as sensitive as I used to be, I could still take a joke. My skin was thin, but the slightest joke wouldn't crush me. Perhaps you might want to talk to someone about that or something before you attempt the military. If you are indeed that sensitive, you might not last long. But I still believe you can do it. You HAVE to thicken your skin, though.
