How can I become a Canadian Air Force pilot?

Can you enlist in the air force, later become a commissioned officer, and then move on to being a pilot?

  • I would like to know if you could possibly enlist in the air force without a college degree, work you're way through to getting a degree through any method, whether it be a special program or something else, and than become an officer and completely change your job to become a pilot. Say, you were a loadmaster when you enlisted but after you became a commissioned officer, would it be possible to later become a pilot and be sent through pilot training school? I understand the possible unlikeliness of the scenario but I would just like the know that the possibility is there. Thank you.

  • Answer:

Yes, you can gain a commission, but no, the only way to get a pilot slot anymore is through the USAFA or through ROTC. Plus, pilots have a limited life span of usefulness before they get put to desk duty. All pilot training must be completed before you hit the age of 28. Timeline... 18 enlist in the AF 19 finally ship out 20 authorized to begin taking college classes 30 finish bachelors work (if you took classes every term you could, realizing there will be terms will you won't take any classes for deployments, pcsing, and studying for promotion.) 31 apply for OCS

usafbratis probably the most accurate. Now What I'm going to tell you took place over 20 years ago. I know a 2Lt that enlisted in the Army, got them to send him to prep school for West Point, then with the help of some one in personnel they cross referenced several regulations and manuals and was given a transfer to the Air Force. After that he got an appointment the AF Academy, graduated and went to pilot Training. He said "I've been in the military for ? years and until now, I've never had a job"

Why not, I know army has the program green to gold and all branches have OCS (officer candidate school) where the req. is you need to be recommended by your higher ups i think... I would ask a recruiter about changing your job however.

It's possible, but highly unlikely!
