Can I copyright my website?

Can I get my website shut down for using the Copyright symbol on a website?

  • I have a Copyright symbol next to the title of my website, but I do not have a Copyright License, what could happen? Could anything happen?.

  • Answer:

Nope, you don't need a license to use the copyright symbol. If you create something, you can copyright it merely by putting the copyright symbol next to it. If someone else copyrights the symbol, you will have to prove you created it first. There are courts that handle that kind of lawsuit. The band Metallica sued the Maybelline corp because they had put out a fingernail polish called metallica. They lost the suit because there was no conection between the music and the polish. Maybelline was not trading on their name. Copyright is only as powerful as the courts allow it to be.

As long as the content of your site is all yours, you have every legal right to use the symbol. Your work is copyrighted, according to law, the MINUTE you create it. You do NOT have to register it to protect it. Registration is merely an extra protection to prove that you owned the material on a specific date. You know, dear, you could save yourself a lot of time, and other people a lot of trouble, if you would just LOOK AT THE DAMN US COPYRIGHT WEBSITE instead of asking your questions here. http://www.copyright.gov/help/faq/faq-general.html#register

nope "if you made the name up and made the site and made all the image your self with Photoshop then no, unless you took them form another site or text form another site and claiming that its your then you can get in ****

(Not wanting to be rude) What you are doing would be illegal, but absolutely nobody would care.

Rules are rules, you can't use copyrighted material in your own website, Remove it or risk temporary/permanent termination of your website.

I'm just the man

Your question is confusing. Are you trying to say that you are using someone's else symbol? Or that you are using the copyright symbol: © (a circled "C")?

What could happen? Someone could come along and steal your ideas and name and there would be nothing that you could do about it.

Nope.
