What is a driver?

What is my current legal status of my driver's license?

  • Questions (details below): What can I do to revoke this suspension? Does the suspension of my non-active NY state driver’s license have any effect on my current Louisiana driver’s license? Is my Louisiana driver’s license now suspended? Does the suspension of a driver’s license show up on my permanent record? If so, is there any way to get it removed? Who can see that my driver’s license was suspended and for how long can they see it once the suspension is terminated? (Details) I live permanently in New York City and go to college in Louisiana. I recently turned 22 years old and had been a New York driver’s license holder from the time I was 16 up until January of 2012, when I switched to a Louisiana license so that I could try and obtain a motorcycle endorsement (license) while at school. Last summer (May of 2011), I received a speeding ticket in New York State in which I pleaded "not guilty" to. They failed to set a court date until months later, and issued the court date to be in February of 2012--right in the middle of the school semester. I called to try and change the court date since I would not be back in New York until the semester ended (May, 2012) and they said the date was not negotiable. Because of this, I could not attend the court date and they sent me a driver’s license "SUSPENSION NOTICE" to my permanent address in New York back in March. It stated that my NY license would be suspended on April 20, 2012 if I was not to "respond to this notice 7 days prior." However, because I am currently in currently in school residing in Louisiana, I did not get this Suspension Notice until just a few days ago when my parents forwarded me my monthly mail. I called the NY court today (April 19, 2012) and they told me that there was nothing I could do and that my NY state license would be suspended as of midnight tonight. Please help me answer the questions above. Thank you.

  • Answer:

Your NY license will be suspended. In a few months to a few years, your Louisiana license will be in the same boat if you do not handle the NY one ASAP. They share info, but not really fast. You should have some time. For now, your LA license is not affected.
