What do you think: Public or Private Health Care and Why?

Question about Universal Health Care? please read and let me know what you think. thank u?

  • Universal Health Care: The United States is the only industrialized nation that does not offer some form of universal health care, and each year the number of uninsured Americans is increasing. Many people look to Canada's health care system as a possible means of fixing our current woes. However, some of the fears associated with universal health care are: Drug/medical technology companies fear that they will not make a profit. There will be a large tax increase. Quality of care will decrease. Read and discuss the following case: A mother brings her son into the emergency room during an asthma attack. Though both of his parents work, they cannot afford medical insurance for themselves or him. They also earn too much money to qualify for state or federal aid. He is treated for his asthma attack at the hospital and he and his mother leave. Two weeks later, they return to the hospital in a virtually identical scenario. Questions: Do you think that this boy is receiving adequate care?…Shouldn't he be able to see a primary care physician before his condition gets so acute that he must visit the ER? Should everyone be entitled to a basic "minimum of health care"… or to the exact same health care? Do you think that health care is a right? If so, are we forced to honor this right?

  • Answer:

Good Question, well worded, respectful, Thank You. You use the word afford? How much does the most basic healthcare costs? $300/month? Both parents work you said in your example...They obviously make more than $21,000/year or would be Medicaid Eligible. There are MANY State Programs that provide Healthcare for those Beyond Medicaid Eligibility...There is Denali Kid Care here in Alaska. But back to "Afford." We need to be Awakened as the meaning of this word. True...After buying a Daily $5 latte ($100/month), a Data Package Cell Phone ($50/mo), a Pack of Cigarettes a day ($144/mo -Nat'l Avg), a 6 pack of Bud a day ($150/mo), a Permanent-Color-Weave-Mani/Pedi ($100/mo) AFTER all of that, and a New Pair of Air Jordan's ($200) or 3 new DVD's ($60) or a New Tatto for ($400).....There is NOT enough Left over for Health Insurance. We are being mislead....We all have a RIGHT to healthcare....but we have a RESPONSIBILITY to Prioritize Spending on NEEDS before Wants. Unfortunately, we can't enforce that. I'd gladly HELP anyone that Pays their Housing, Food, Utilities, Transportation and Healthcare COSTs and RUNS Short before they are PAID...... But, I will NEVER be an Advocate of ALLOWING people to Buy WANTS, before NEEDS, then DEMANDING MORE OF MY Hard Earned Money to pay for their Needs so their Kids won't starve. Thanks a lot for a great question. Please, remember that just because something is a RIGHT, that it MUST be supplied FREE of Charge. That is where we have gotten ourselves into trouble. We are only Guaranteed Equal OUTCOME IF we Make Equal Sacrifice and Exert Equal Effort. Thanks
