  • Answer:

yes, you definitely need a visa to go to Syria. take a look at the State Department website, http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_pa_tw/cis/cis_1035.html. read all of it. among other things it says: ENTRY / EXIT REQUIREMENTS FOR U.S. CITIZENS: A passport and a visa are required. Visas must be obtained prior to arrival in Syria from a Syrian diplomatic mission located in the traveler’s country of residence. Visas issued by the Syrian Honorary Consulates generally have a maximum validity of two entries; however, travelers planning to remain in Syria for an extended period should submit their visa applications to the Syrian Embassy in Washington, DC, where they may request a multiple-entry visa with a six-month validity. Persons planning to visit neighboring countries while in Syria (even for a short day trip) should apply for a multiple-entry visa from the Syrian Embassy in Washington, DC. Visit the Embassy of the Syrian Arab Republic, 2215 Wyoming Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20008, telephone (202) 232-6313 or check the web pages of the Syrian Ministry of Tourism or the Syrian Embassy for the most current visa information

There are no American embassies in America. You would get your required visa from the Syrian diplomatic mission. The closest Syrian consulate to you: 3 San Joaquin Plaza, #190 CA 92660 New Port Beach United States Phone: +1-949-640-9888 Fax: +1-949-640-9292 Note this warning from the US State Department (especially the fact that there is no longer a US embassy there: The United States continues to warn U.S. citizens against travel to Syria and recommends that U.S. citizens in Syria depart immediately. The Department urges those remaining in Syria to leave while it is still possible, as borders may become more difficult to cross or may close without warning. On February 6, the U.S. Embassy in Damascus suspended all operations in Syria.
