How much should I charge for magazine ad space?

Renting a Pasture - What to charge?

  • We have what was once used as a horse pasture by the previous owners of our home. It is roughly two acres and has one horse stall on it. We have no desire to own horses and I placed an ad on Craig's List to rent the pasture out for just about any use (horses, livestock, storage, farming, etc). I was surprised at the massive out of responses I received...I didn't think anyone would be very interested and I posted the ad not knowing what to charge. There is someone interested in renting it for two cow calfs and they will be the ones caring for them. What do you suggest I charge them if they were the ones the land is to be leased to? There is also someone interested in using it as a storage space for their business (lots of wood, tools, etc.). What would you suggest I charge them if they were the ones the land is to be leased to? I've never been in this position and we want to utilize what we can of the property to earn extra cash (paying those student loans is killer!). Thanks for the help!

  • Answer:

Call around your locale to see what others charge and go from there. If you are renting it out for storage, use a contract to ensure the person knows they need to get their own insurance. Prices will vary with location.
