What really happens at prom?

• You see, my boyfriend and I are going to prom, and I was just wondering what exactly happens at prom. I have never been to prom before, and he is older than me, and I'm just a little nervous. I've heard a lot of rumors about girls losing their virginity prom night and a lot of other crazy things. Can anyone just fill me on on what EXACTLY happens at prom? That'd be brilliant.

  after getting ready you go to someones house to take pictures usually that lasts for a couple hours depending on who you go with, a lot of people drink before prom/during if you can get away with it (aka if they breathalize) but i wouldnt worry about that. usually you go in a limo to wherever prom is then pretty much eat/dance the whole night. after prom there are usually some after parties. most people do not lose their virginities after prom. i know i didnt. just go with the flow, if you don't want to do anything with your boyfriend then don't. its not some huge right of passage to lose your virginity at prom like its described in movies. its pretty much just a good time dancing with friends.
