Birth Control & Acne?
-
Background: I was on Tri-Sprintec Birth Control pills since I was in 7th grade (about 6/7 years on it) then went off of it in December '09. I was taking it for acne since it was the only thing that worked. I didn't really want the idea of birth control pills anymore (I started slacking off on taking everyday pills). But, then I didn't have a period for 9 months and I even checked to make sure I was not pregnant (it was just the pill that caused no period). About 5 months ago, I went to the dermatologist for acne, he put me on Amoxicillin for bad acne.. but he has me taking 4 pills a day. I want away from pills! :( I figured "Forget it, I'll just find a birth control option that'll be easier to manage". Now, I went to the Gynecologist and requested the patch so I only had to worry about it once a week. But, my acne is SO bad right now. It's been a week and a half on the Ortho Evra patch. I probably haven't given it enough time to adjust.. Will my acne from the Ortho Evra patch be clearing up anytime soon? If it doesn't work in about 6-8 weeks, should I find something like the NuvaRing (the Gyno suggested this, but I was hesitant) instead? I want to avoid pills or anything that would cause me to wait a while to get pregnant (That's another story: I'm getting married later this year, but it'll be maybe a year until kids).

Different birth controls work differently for different people, so it may not work, although with the messing of hormones, it should adjust soon! If the patch doesn't work, I suggest you try the Depo(if you don't mind shots). You get a shot in the upper arm every three months. I'm 14 and my 15 year old sister takes it(forced to by parents). I'm going on it in a few days. I was originally going to get the implant but decided against it after watching video of the insertion and the taking out of. My mom pays about ten dollars for the shot, which she gets at a pharmacy, then takes my sister to the pediatition(you don't need an appointment, unless it's your first time), and the doctor gives her the shot. My sister had bad acne before but it cleared up completely and she no longer bleeds. I hope you fix your problem.
