Is Kenya a nice place to live?

Where would be a nice place to live for a young elementary school teacher?

  • I am currently obtaining my bachelors in elem ed, however i do not want to get licensed in the state i live in (indiana) simply because i'm not too fond of it, the people are hostile and irritating, the state is alright but it seems i've been here forever and it can be a bit flat and dull and boring a lot of the time, i just want a change of scenery. Specifically i want a place that will pay a nice starting salary and nice salary over all so that i will be able to live comfortably, a state where the people are generally friendly, diverse, scenic and a nice cross between a nice country side and fun city (i'd prefer to live in a calm more laid back part but be able to commute to the city when i want to go out etc) also where the cost of living is reasonable for a single woman. I've considered Tennessee but i keep hearing negative feedback about it (people there are racist, fake, pay is low and unfair etc. Does anyone agree or disagree with this and/or have any suggestions of where i could go based off of what i've said? I'd greatly appreciate it! thanks. =0)

  • Answer:

Get licensed in your state. Most states have a transfer process for licenses, and getting licensed in your university state will make that process much easier. I was hired in North Dakota (don't recommend for young teachers) before I graduated college (reason I took the job), so I just got licensed in ND and it was way more expensive and stressful. I'm now applying to Colorado and Minnesota schools in bigger cities and surrounding areas. That is what I recommend. Don't do Tennessee. I saw a bumper sticker in one of their gas stations that said "God wants people to only speak English".

It's time you started doing a serious search of what you want. You should consider: Climate - how hot the summers, how cold the winters, amount of snow, rain and tornadoes Religion - want in or out of the bible belt, want access to a particular church Demographics - want a pure white or black environment or a multicultural one Recreation - do you ski, play a sport, like ballet, etc. what's available Crime rates - what are they and how important to you Cost of living - how much is housing, food, etc. in relation to pay scales Things you want - Is the county dry, are there good beauty parlours, hospitals and doctors; anything else you desire in an environment

Whoever told you those negative things about Tennessee was not describing the vast majority of the state. (You can find a racist in any state.) Tennessee and its residents are just what you are looking for, except our pay is not that great. However, the cost of living is low to help make up for it. I would suggest a smaller city where your money goes a lot farther. You are only about 2 hours from a major city from just about anywhere. There are many outstanding school systems in TN, so check them out. I would suggest Middle or East TN for the scenery and weather.
