Are there any online degrees for computer programming?

I have learnt a lot in computer programming. Is it still worth going to university?

  • So I'm still at high school, and I'm looking into a future in computer programming. However, I'm still uncertain it'll be worth it. I am quite experienced in computer science, and I've done programming in many languages since nine years old. My dad says that at the rate I'm learning all this stuff, I'll have a university level knowledge in computer science by the time I leave high school, and that going to university could be a big waste of time and money. The one setback that still has me pondering on this question, is whether companies will still accept someone who hasn't got a degree or whatever in computer science! I'm not too hot on the information about how university and degrees work and all, so any help on that would be nice. Thanks!

This is a joke, right? "Learnt"? And you're wondering if you should continue pursuing your education?

Depends on the company, of course, but I do know that the game developing company DICE (makers of the Battlefield series) often prefer people who've learned on their own. Of course, this is just one company, and they're not even American, but there are probably more companies like them out there. So I don't think that would be a huge problem :p
