Should I go straight to a 4 year university or go to community college for 2 years first?
-
I got accepted at the University of Michigan and Michigan State University and I know they are both really great schools, but I also got offered a full ride for two years at the community college near me. I know going to the community college will be way cheaper, but I'm scared that if I decide to apply to transfer to Michigan for the last two years, I won't get another chance. Do you think my chances for transferring to Michigan would be a little higher if they know that I was previously accepted? And sorry if I'm asking too much, but if I go to the community college will I be missing out on any experiences I would normally have at a four year university?

Answer:
go to a 4 year university because I heard when you go to a community college and then you go to a university, they don't count the credits you got in community college.

First of all, congrats on getting accepted to University of Michigan! I live in Indiana and I'm going to my state university right now but my junior year I'm going to transfer to University of Michigan so maybe I will see you there! As for your question, I'd definitely take University of Michigan. If circumstances allowed, I myself would start at University of Michigan but I'm not quite prepared to leave home just yet so I'll just attend as a transfer. But you have the opportunity to start at an amazing school so I say take that chance. I was going to attend a community college and then transfer to University of Michigan but I got accepted to the University and I figured if I have a chance to get accepted into a real University I am going to take that chance. However the decision is still yours, do what YOU feel you want to do. To the person that says your credits won't transfer, they are WRONG. If your community college is ACCREDITED and also a state community college then they should ALL be transferable. The community college I was going to attend, all my credits would transfer over to ANY University in Indiana.

They'll still accept you even after two years at the community college. Just make sure your credits will transfer.
