How to get into a good college?

• I'm about to be a sophomore in high school and i feel like i need to get more serious about college. I think i did generally well for my freshman year. 3.6 GPA, policy debate, PAP classes, orchestra, 75 hours of volunteering. Next year I'm planning on taking 2 AP courses (chem and US hist) and PAP for my other core classes. I'm also taking science electives (genetics 1st semester, biotechnology 2nd) and Spanish 2. Along with Debate 7th hour. (its only a 6 hour day) I'm wondering whether or not i should drop orchestra... Ive been with it since the 6th grade and ive lost interest, but ive read from other sources that its great to stick with it for a few years in high school. Its just that i dread it even though im pretty good. I also really like genetics. Im planning on going into the medical field and i want to show colleges i take an interest in the subject. I've also been thinking about taking golf since there are lots of scholarships that are never filled up each year for the sport but im afraid that'll be too much for me to handle... What should i start doing in the college process? I honestly have no clue where i want to go. All i know is that i don't want to go to some rinky dink college. Ha. Anyways, i really need some tips on staying on a good path for an honorable college. Thanks :)

  Don't take orchestra if you hate it. It will just drag you down. Medical school is all about learning large amounts of very complicated information quickly. Want to show us that you've got the right stuff? Take hard classes and get top grades. Volunteer hours don't mean nearly as much as top grades do.
