What course should I take in college?

What college course to take in community college to be a massage therapist?

  • I'm going to attend a community college in the summer, and i have set my goals on being a Massage Therapist. But i need a lot of information on the class course in community college to be a massage therapist. My plan was to go for 2 years then transfer to a university. Also i want to start from a community college not a vocational program. What do you suggest i should do?

  • Answer:

In the uk (scotland) massage is part of a more general course in Complimentary Therapies. Some of the subjects covered in the course are Anatomy and Physiology, Chemistry, Biology, Counselling, Aroma Therapy Massage, Reflexology and Indian Head Massage. Any of these subjects will stand you in good stead and if you decide to change direction further down the line you could go for a career in nursing armed with the first four subjects on the list.

Massage therapy is a vocational program which is offered by massage therapy schools. It's not often offered by ccs, and it's never offered by universities. Where it is offered by ccs, it's part of their vocational programs, not their degree programs. There are some fields offered by ccs that are highly related to massage therapy, such as physical therapy assistant. But that's a different career, requiring completely different training. Likewise, at a university, you could study to become an athletic trainer, which often involves massage therapy. But again, completely different career, completely different training.

Massage therapy is a vocational certificate program that you'd take at a community college or, more commonly, a private massage therapy school. Universities don't offer it. Are you maybe thinking physical therapist? You dont take random courses for massage therapy and usually not at a community college. You need to look up massage therapy schools and make sure you research and make sure its accredited and accepts financial aid. You get your associates degree through them. Make sure its not just a certificate program. example: http://choose.lakeside.edu/massagetherapy_lakeside?gclid=CN_Nj-HWwa8CFQYUKgodjEI0yw This is a very good choice of career. It was recently listed as one of the less stressful jobs anyone can get. Also you can make big bucks doing this.
