Occupational therapy or special education?

Does Wilderness Therapy require a college Education?

  • I am interested in the idea of Wilderness Therapy. Are there college programs for it? And if so, what schools have good Wilderness Therapy programs? If not, are there majors that would increase your likelihood of getting a job in Wilderness Therapy?

  • Answer:

If you mean therapy in a wilderness setting for disturbed people, a Ph.D. in Psychology would enable you to run a program, but you would need no degree if you were a monitor who supervised setting up and breaking camp, for example.

I am currently enrolled at Unity College in Maine for a double major in Adventure Therapy and Adventure Education. So there is an option to check out but for cost reasons I am looking to transfer to University of New Hampshire to enroll in their recreational therapy program which is all the same idea just a different title. Their program looks pretty incredible and you can also receive a major in it. A couple other schools to consider would be Naropa, and Prescott College. THen after you major in something i would suggest going for your masters in counseling or psych if you really wanted.
