  • I will be graduating from high school this june.. i wanna be a RN! but i dont know how to start or even know what classes to take! also if you guys know of any good school nd not so expensive where they give RN classes i would like to know.. it would be great help !!

  • Answer:

you can either get an AA degree at a community college or you can get a bachelors in nursing at a university. the bsn is more likely to get you a job. you need to apply to a specific nursing program, not only to the college that offers it.

Pick the school you want to go to, go to their website and look at the per-requisite courses that they require to get in. You may already have one or two out of the way from your high school career. It depends on how the nursing school makes decisions for enrollment. Some schools are strictly based on a competitive system, whereby they give you a certain amount of points based on how many per-requisite courses you have done, what you grades are, your GPA, and what health care experience you already have. Other schools have waiting lists, that you can just sign up for and wait it out until you get in. Other schools don't use points but are still highly competitive based on GPA and grades, especially the grades that you receive in your per-requisite classes. If you can find out what the school requires and how they select their candidates, you can make a plan to get in. Also, Most schools require that you be a CNA for at least a year. Some only want you to have health care experience, whatever that may be, Phlebotomy, EMT, Receptionist, etc. I recommend that you try one of these fields first to see if you like it. Since most schools require a CNA, I recommend going that direction. Also, being a CNA can give you a lot better idea of what a nurse does and whether or not you'll like it. Nursing is a great field and I love what I do, but it's not for everyone. It can be very demanding. You're work schedule can be far different than a normal job. 12 hour shifts, weekends and holidays are no exception. People are always in need of nursing care, whether it's Christmas or your birthday. It is a great career and you help people everyday. There is great job security and good pay. But you have to love what you do or it's not worth it.

Go to college for a BSN (bachelor of science in nursing). Try going to a reputable, not-for-profit school as there are a lot of scam "universities" these days that only want your money. Apply for lots of scholarships - nurses are in high demand and you can probably get something.
