Is syracuse university?

What is the likelihood of me getting into Syracuse University?

  • I'm really anxious. I go to SUNY Potsdam, and I'm trying ever-so-hard to transfer back home, to Syracuse University. I'm a freshman on my second semester. My first semester was alright. I didn't get anything lower than a C, which is exactly what the transfer requirements are for Syracuse. Now, this semester, I'm taking six classes, each of which are extremely overwhelming. I spend most of my free time studying for exams, and most of my exams I've failed or barely passed in my classes. I did well on my midterms, but other than that.. I don't do too well. But I get all my assignments in, and I put everything I can into them. I don't know how well I'm doing. And I have four weeks left. Everything's submitted except the college transcript to Syracuse. I was rejected when I was in high school from Syracuse because I wasn't academically where I should be, but I was close. The school themselves said that they don't expect me to pass everything, because I'm a freshman and I'm doing a bit much. I have four weeks left, a few more exams to go. And I'm getting extremely nervous that I won't get into SU. I'm not sure what I can do to calm my anxiety because I keep thinking about what my chances of acceptance are..

  • Answer:

Syracuse is one of the top universities in the country. Your goal must be to excel in your courses at SUNY-Potsdam. Probably too late to do anything about Spring 2012 but next time be more sensible about your course load - It looks like you are taking 18 hours and that is a lot. Even 15 is a full load for almost all students. All that I can advise is that you be careful to not burn any bridges at Pots. Your chances of transferring to Syracuse this year are very slim.

If you are failing a lot of classes, it might be to your benefit to see if you can withdraw from the semester to avoid having a lot of "F"s on your transcript. You could take some classes at a community college close to home to get your GPA up. This works for a lot of people. But these are just some off-the-cuff thoughts - you should talk to a counselor at your school and an admissions counselor at Syr.
