How to make a GPS tracker?

GPS tracker in phone?

  • My phone has a GPS tracker in it If I put my sim card in a different phone will the GPS tracker still work? ...is the GPS tracker in the phone or the sim card?

  • Answer:

It depends how exactly it works. GPS itself is receive only in any case. The tracking function uses the phone network for data transmission, and the phone network needs the SIM (or at least an active SIM for that network.)

No chip will need to be installed on a cellphone to track it. If the phone has a GPS functionality built in, most of them will accept 3rd party software to track the cellphone. An example of this can be found in www.wavecontrols.com. They have GPS tracking software for Android phones and Blackberry phones. I believe they even have it for Nextel and Nokia phones but I'm not sure. I have used their Blackberry and Android tracking software for sure. The software is free but they do charge a monthly service fee to use the tracking service. I believe it is under $10 a month.
