Getting people to donate money?

Hello everyone, Basically, this summer I will be going to Africa on a "Vets go Wild course" The course is only for veterinary students and it is costing me a few thousand pounds, to volunteer in South Africa. I am currently paying for the course so far. I have seen pages set up such as "BT my donate" however, this requires a charities registration number. Basically, what I am asking...Would I be able to set up an online page for people to donate money to me for me to pay for the trip of a life time? Thank you for your time.

Answer:
You cannot. After all, why would a stranger give you money for what is effectively a holiday? And companies will not sponsor you for this.

Some of my classmates did that program. For raising money I think they mainly did fundraisers at school. They all really enjoyed it - I think most of them either got it as a gift for their parents or got some extra loan money, though. Not sure about online donation stuff or how you report it as income, etc.
