Are 4.6l SOHC and DOHC engine harness the same?

1996 Saturn sl1 SOHC Engine Swap to 1996 Saturn SL2 DOHC?

  • Hi all, Xavier here I have a 1996 Saturn SL1 with 225,000 Miles on it. It is really starting to burn lots of oil, like a quart a week, so I decided to swap out the engine for one I got from a wrecked 1996 Saturn SL2 . It is the twin cam 1.9L engine, and it only has 40,000 miles on it. I know I will have to swap out the computer as well as the engine wiring harness. My questions are... 1) Will the stock transmission from the SL1 bolt to the twin cam engine? (I plan to buy a new clutch regardless) 2) Is there any other major problems I will be facing besides the wiring? 3) Has anyone here done this swap before and have any advice? I have an alternate car I can drive while I do the swap, so I want to make sure I get everything while i'm in there. Thanks for the Advice in advance Xavier. This is what my father and grandfather both told me The transmission will work, but you will have better performance if you swap the transmission. You'll need a 1996 DOHC PCM but will not need a wiring harness

  • Answer:

I doubt the tranny will bolt up, but since they're both from the 96 model, the SL2 engine should fit in your car, but you may need the motor mounts for the SL2.
