Am I a bass or baritone?

What are some roles for a young bass/bass-baritone?

  • I am 16, still working on getting a repertoire filled evenly, and have hit a wall: as I look for arias from operas that I can believably perform and use, Ive found that, besides Don Giovanni, basses are really always the fat old man character. I can't sing the stuff that's written for them for any kind of audition or performance because it wouldn't make sense, considering I am not fat or old. So I am wondering if anyone knows of any bass roles that call for young, normal, not obese singers.

Sorry you have to play the villian or the devil so often! At least you don't have to worry about that with most choral selections.

Don't be silly. You can always be made up to look older and fatter. It's the old fat tenors trying to look 19 who have the real problem.
