How much should I weight for football?

I need to gain weight and get faster for football, how do i do this?

  • I'm currently 6'0" in the 190 range lbs and I've never really lifted weights hard because I've only played bball at my school because we didn't have football. Now I'm going to a college in the fall that is just getting a football program and will be D2 so I want to gain a lot of muscle weight and get faster to have a shot at making the team. Any recomended workout routines would be awesome. I am thinking I want to play Linebacker or Defensive End..maybe tight end if I'm good enough at catching and stuff.

    I would suggest that you get with the strength and conditioning coach at the school and find out what he has to offer...He would be the ideal person to get with... Good luck....

Personally, I do not believe that you need to gain any weight for football. Based on your height and weight, I believe that you will make a very good fit at defensive end. You have the ideal size for a defensive end in college football. What you need to do this (and every) offseason is eat healthy, exercise by doing weight lifting, and either jogging or going for a long run every day. If you do these things, you will get faster, stronger, into better shape, and gain some muscle, which will greatly improve your chances of becoming a successful defensive end in college football.

You need to go to the gym and be a gym rat if you want to be on the D-line. They are nasty and mean. Don't limit yourself , let the coaching staff find where you fit best. Honestly, with a new team to D-II, see where the holes are and go for that. You never want to say you are a DE and be behind 6 other guys and there is only 1 TE. Talk to the coaches but you need to get working out.
