Environmental engineering/management?
-
So I've been thinking I want to be an environmental engineer. Because I'm interested in the environment and I feel like it is something I enjoy, and I already know what good schools I could go to. But now I've been thinking that I may be more fit for a management position, like in admin. The thing is, I don't know what you would study to become a manager. Do you need to study environment stuff still? And also like, whaat if I wanted to manage something else? Like something related to sports or something like that. I dunno just management seems very obscure to me. I don't understand how getting into that field works. Also, if there are any people who are environmental engineers or work in the environment field please tell me how your job is and how you got there! Thanks :D

Answer:
Mechanical engineer here, and I thought I might be able to help your decision a little. At least on the engineering side. I know very little about admin management. fortunately for you, engineering jobs typically ARE management! You don't have to chose between the two. I have a 4 year degree and I've been employed for no more than 2 months and I'm already helping manage a manufacturing team of about 20 people. Engineering is just more about helping the team with equipment and drawings, rather than customer relations and scheduling like other managers (at least where I work). Word of caution though, environmental engineering is a TOUGH degree to achieve from what I have seen (my roommate was one before dropping out). It is a lot of advanced math (calc III and above) and chemistry (organic chemistry and above I think). If you decide to take it on, make sure you go in fully committed. I can only speak from experience, of which I have very little, but I hope you find this helpful in some way or another. Good luck!
