  There's loads of free and cheap resources online for learning any language including japanese. For example you can install anki which is free software to help you learn & remember words - in fact anki is the Japanese word for "memorizing" and is well suited for learning japanese words and characters. You can use online language exchanges to get lots of experience talking japanese to native japanese speakers who want to learn english (or whatever other languages you speak). You can find a load of free videos on youtube for learning and immersing in the language. For a bit a money you could buy the downloadable version of pimsleur which is much cheaper than the cd version. You could also just go to the library and borrow/use all sorts of expensive language learning courses for basically nothing.
