Why does a fluorescent light bulb light up a plasma ball?
-
I am doing a science fair project on it and i would like to know why it does light up

Answer:
The operation of both requires frequencies of about the same value, about 35kHz typically. The fluorescent bulb radiates EM waves at this frequencies. They are picked up by the plasma ball and the gas inside it lights up.
