How to get to of a lisp?

• I just got a rapid palatal expander wednesday. It is supposed to expand the top jaw so the teeth fit together. It will be in for 3-6 months. Please just look up what it is on Wikipedia. Since I got it I have had a lisp with S's and some other sounds. Other than practicing talking, how can I try to get rid of the lisp. Some people were laughing at me but I was honestly laughing with them about my lisp. It is so annoying and stupid sounding. It's somewhat funny but not when it comes to public speaking, or speaking in front of my class. Thanks in advance. How can I deal witht the lisp. P.S. Why is the world do cruel?.... There is a S in the word liSp... lol please help

  You are dealing with it the best you can, and that's by laughing with the people who are laughing with you. I had a palatal expander and I just had it taken off. I didn't experience the lisp too much. Only that first night. You will get used to it , but in the mean time just keep laughing with them, and if you are really starting to get impressed then try not to talk too much. I know that's hard, but if your despite you can do it. Practice your talking a lot at home and when you are reading books try to read out loud to help practice your talking. Good luck and soon in a couple days or at the most a week your speech will be getting better. Just hang in there. You can do it.
