What is a really girly username?

Can I really not choose my Pottermore username?

  • I just saw pottermore was open and immediately went to sign up, but as excited as I've been, waiting for it since before they even announced a beta period, I'm a little disappointed. There's really no way for me to pick my own username? I'm stuck with one of the 5 awful options they give me? "GoldWild16817". A username is a big part of any account like this, so to have such a limited say in what it is seems a little ridiculous. I get that they're trying to keep it kid-safe, but this seems a bit absurd (especially since I'm technically an adult...Will I need handholding forever?). Was this what it was like for the beta testers, and is there really no way to change it? I can't even see a way to see more pre-made options! For a years+ anticipated wait of checking for updates every day, I'm pretty letdown before even getting to the content...

    Yes, it was the same for the Beta testers. Everyone gets a choice of 4-5 preselected names. They have done this in order to keep the site safe for users of all ages. You cannot change it. Here's what the Help page says regarding Usernames: Usernames are generated by combining a number of magical names or objects. This is done for lots of reasons (including ensuring child safety and protecting your identity) and once you’ve chosen one, that’s the one you keep.

Yeah unfortunately you can't choose anything different from one of the options they give you.. even if you don't like it, it won't really make a difference when you use pottermore and if you add people who know you they can always give you a nickname in their friend list and you will be able to access pottermore from your Facebook if you want to. Yes all of us betas had to choose from 5 options just like everyone else
