What GCSE's do I need to become a Primary School Teacher?
-
I'm picking my options soon, and I want to become a Primary School Teacher. I live in the UK if that helps. So far, I want to choose: English/Literature Maths Physics German Food History and Childcare or Art. But some people told me that I don't need childcare. Any help please!

Hey, it's great you want to be a Primary Teacher, I do too. You don't really know what you're talking about, so i'll help you. Firstly, you can't 'choose' subjects you want to do. You can, but only 3 or 2 or 1, depending on your academic ability and your school. You will HAVE to do Maths, English (both), Biology, Chemistry and physics ( so you can't just choose to do one!!), PE and RE. These are made compulary by the government. Your GCSEs don't really matter, it's mainly your A-Levels, but you need GCSEs to do A-Levels so that's why they're important in a way. So I would choose a Humanity (History/Geography) and a Language (French/Spanish/German/Latin) as [along with your maths, english and science qualifications] you'll recieve an English Baccalaureate - http://www.education.gov.uk/schools/teachingandlearning/qualifications/englishbac/a0075975/theenglishbaccalaureate Which is good for two reasons: 1.) It looks good on your CV. 2.) Universities and Job interviewers will be looking for this on applicants as of January 2012. So I would choose those a Humanity and a Language and then maybe something you enjoy? I chose Drama to improve my confidence when talking imfront lots of people, which would help alot when in a classroom! But childcare is mainly for people who want to work in nurserys, care homes, foster homes etc. As you don't actually touch the children as such.

Fore-warned is fore-armed. - You will need Religion very soon. We are a Christian Country and Christ has been around a long time. Psalm 23 had God as the 'Shepherd' - Psalm 110 has God hand humans over to Jesus. Jesus confirms this in St. Matthew 28 v 18. He said He "came to the 'lost sheep of the house of Israel" - St. Matthew 15 v 24. Jesus also said "Suffer (allow) little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: St. Matthew 19 v 14. God is Political and as we have 'general education' - use it for good reason. (churches need a lesson they won't forget.) - so do politicians - and lots of so called 'adults'.

You need a C or above in everything. In maths and english you have to have a B I think. Good luck!!! And hope I helped :-) xx
