How to remove a windows live messenger virus?
-
In windows live messenger my name keeps changing to gabby and posting links to what I'm assuming is a porn site. I'm not about to click that link. I ran a full scan with norton and it didn't find anything. I want to know how to fix this if anyone can help. It logs on from some place called Home-PC. I know this because it started changing things and typing while I was in mid-chat with a friend. Can I just uninstall and reinstall messenger? Is there something else I can do since Norton 360 seems to be completely incompetent?

Answer:
Do you have a password for that? If so, change it, and if you have email associated with it, make sure yours is the only one in there. Changing the password will only be effective if the person logged in, logs out at some point. If you are on a wireless router, I would also log in, update the firmware, and place a 10, or more character password on it. Make sure remote assistance, remote desktop, file sharing, and printer sharing are disabled. Also check this web site for advice on finding keyloggers: http://wskills.blogspot.com/2007/01/how-to-find-fight-keyloggers.html Use MBAM, and SUPERAntiSpyware as your scanners for this. If you can't get this person out of your messenger, it's because they never log out, and I suggest starting a new account for it. Use a password with 10, or more characters.

Change your password. It isn't a virus. Somebody hacked you and is using your account to send spam and other junkmail. Make sure your password contains about 15 characters, and contains both letters and numbers. Make your new password as complicated as possible, and make sure its complicated enough that you have to write it down somewhere to remember it.
