What are some good guitar sheet music books?

Are piano sheet music and guitar sheet music the same?

  • I'm entering a music competition and I want to play Fur Elise on the guitar. I am required to give the judges the sheet music. I have piano sheet music, but I wanted to know if I could use it for guitar. Thanks!

  • Answer:

You could, but you couldn't use parts of the bass clef that are really low on the piano. Most guitars only go to the e below the middle c of the piano. You could get a version specially made for the guitar, or better yet, for the competition, you could practice it for every note you can play on the guitar. The music is the same.

The Guitar uses the treble clef, which follows standard scoring procedures. You may want to state that you are only playing the treble clef. However, modern guitarists follow a different scoring procedure called Tablature, or Tabs for short. If you're playing from a tab, or are expected to supply a tab, you would need to give a tab instead.

Usually guitar players read guitar tabs, not piano music sheets...
