What should I add for a professional reference on my job app?

  • I graduated from high school last year and have been traveling since my graduation. I have just arrived back home and am trying to get my first job before I head off to college this year, but on my job application it asks for a professional reference. From my understanding, a professional reference is one who you have worked with on a business basis or someone who is your teacher/counselor if you have never have had a job before. I, however, have neither of these at the moment because I am not currently a student and have never been employed. What should I do? Thanks in advance for any help.

  • Answer:

I would email a teacher from your senior year of high school and ask them to be a reference for you. I've had teachers be a reference for me several years after I was in their class. You can also use other people like the principal, your coaches, etc. to be references too.
