  • Answer:

Hello, I'm not a guy but would like to offer my perspective as a working paralegal. 1. I work in house for a corporation. I used to work for a law office, but moved closer to where my daughter attends school so the commute is short and sweet. 2. I didn't want to pursue a law degree and be saddled with a 60k+ of debt after graduation. I still enjoyed the legal field so thought it would be best to work as a paralegal and still perform of a lot of substantive work that would give me a great learning opportunity if I ever decided to attend law school. (I still have no desire to attend law school.) 3. 10 years. 4. I'm enthusiastic about my job because I enjoy the attorneys I work with. We get along in a very collegial environment and I feel valued and respected for the work I do. 5. I have my own office instead of a cubicle which I consider a nice advantage. 6. Can't answer this one. 7. For me, because I'm in house, I handle a lot of travel and expense reports, legal research of statutes and case law, reviewing contracts for bid reviews, drafting correspondence to outside counsel (attorney reviews), maintaining trial folders and binders although outside counsel represents our office. My duties can vary from day to day it just depends on what my attorneys need for support and I pretty much do it. 8. Again, I work in house for a huge company with over 10,000 employees. 9. I have a bachelor's degree and a paralegal certificate. 10. see answer 7 11. My office flexible to a degree. I cannot work from home when my daughter is sick, but they allow me to make up time that I take to be with my daughter instead of deducting sick/vacation hours. 12. 401k, weekly pay, holidays, sick days and vacation are lumped together under one paid time off account so it doesn't matter which one you use it for as it comes out of the same account; life insurance, health insurance and yearly raises. 13. My attorneys are hands off. They just expect the work to get done and done correctly. They expect me to manage deadlines and stay on top of developing matters so they don't miss any deadlines. 14. They let me take any classes I wish for self improvement as they relate to my career. They're happy to let me take computer classes in Power Point, Adobe or paralegal seminars. Whatever I need for career improvement they support and pay for.
