What should I include in my Personal Statement?

Where, on my resume, should I include a personal statement?

  • A friend of mind told me about a job opening where she works and to include a casual personal statement and to mention that I know her so she can put in a good word. My question is, once I have one written, where do I put it? I've seen some long samples, so would it take the place of a formal cover letter? Would I include it at the top of my resume? Also, how would I mention that I know her? She said to be myself, and be casual because it's a company full of fun, colorful personalities.

  • Answer:

Not in the resume. But you could a write good cover letter and mention her name as the information source you got about job opening. Don't say too detail about how you know or such, just say heard about this job opening through so and so and go with your qualification and skills to show that why you are best person for this job and how enthusiastic about that position. Good luck!

You do NOT put a "personal statement" on a resume. EVER. The employers want to know if you're qualified for the job. They don't give a damn if you like puppies. grow the hell up.
