Is there a demand for males in physical therapist assistant field?

Dental Assistant or Physical Therapist Assistant?

  • I'm a 25 year old male looking for a career change. I'm deciding between a dental assistant and physical therapist assistant. I'm hesistant to be a dental assistant because most are female and it would probably be hard for me get hired. Are there more male physical therapist assistants than dental assistants? Which career would be the best for me to go into? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Well, the average salary for Physical Therapist Assistants in 2010 was $49,690. The average salary for Dental Assistants in 2010 was $33,470. While Physical Therapist Assistants need an associate degree, Dental Assistants can enter the profession with a postsecondary non-degree award. Since Physical Therapy involves helping patients move, strength is required and being male would be to your advantage. On the other hand, being male should not make it difficult for you to get hired as a Dental Assistant. I say, choose which ever one you like best! Good luck! P.S. Have you looked into Occupational Therapist Assitants?
