Would you become a CNA (Certified Nursing Assistant) if you could not find employment elsewhere?

Opinions..should i become a cna? ( certified nursing assistant)?

  • i currently clean floors ( floor maintenance) at a local nursing/rehab center for the elderly. I have to clean spills from water to bodily fluids and clean each room daily to keep it clean. I also have to dispose of dirty attends etc. Today the owner asked me if i went and got a cna certificate wich is 2 weeks to a month of schooling she wants me to become a cna and work as one. I already work here and with the residents. DO you think i should? it could be more money but its working with residents on another level. Im comfortable in thsi place but want to do somethingmore with my life..this may be it....what do you think? is it a smart decision to become a cna ( maybe work here or another place) long term is it a good decision? im a 23 year old male if that means anything

  • Answer:

Since you already work at a nursing home you must know what a CNA's duties are, but just in case you aren't sure - they give residents a bath, dress them, brush their hair, feed them if needed, assist with toileting (change Depends, give them suppositories & enemas and clean them), help them with hearing aides, and anything else they need help with. You may make more than you do now, but it doesn't pay well. Depending on what area of the country you live in you'll make between $17,000 -$29,000 a year.

I deffenitely think you should! You're already cleaning up the fluids off the floor... Not very different from cleaning up s*** off their a**! Also you could probably make a lot more money!

Sounds like your boss sees potential in you! Congratulations. If you enjoy this type of work and see a future for yourself then I would take the course to become a certified nursing assistant. Beyond that you could start to look at becoming a nurse, maybe the next step on your career path. There are even scholarships available for males that want to go into the nursing profession. Best of luck.
