Looking to become a firefighter?

How to become a firefighter in Buffalo, NY?

  • My husband is currently in the USMC and is getting out Jan. 2014. We were looking into moving to Buffalo and for him to become a firefighter. He needs to take the Civil Service Exam and then go from there. What I was wondering is does he need to obtain an EMT license before he even takes the civil exam or do they take him through it after? Is it paid for or do we pay? And how long is it? Thanks!

  • Answer:

check with Buffalo Fire Dept. directly for requirements. Each unit has requirements.

The typical EMT class is about 8weeks - 5months. U have to have your EMT license before you can persue being a firefighter. He'll have to join a fire academy or a firefighter bootcamp training program before he can befome a firefighter.
