Why is Windows Live Messenger Plus not working?

My Windows Live Messenger hasn't been working. Why is that?

  • When I try to sign in it says "Signing in to Windows Live Messenger failed because the service is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later." The error code is: 800488fe. I've tried closing the process in the program manager, rebooting the computer, trying a different username and even re-installing the messenger. Is anyone else having this problem? If not, any ideas on how to solve it? Thanks.
