What is Project For Awesome on YouTube?

I want to use a youtube video in my school project...but what about copyright?

  • I am doing a school project that is going to be a documentary . I wanted to include some older commercials in it; however, I am pretty sure this would be a violation of copyright. I know how to take videos off of youtube, but I do not know how to get permission to put the videos in my video and properly give credit at the end of the video. Also, the commercials that are on youtube are probably violating copyright because they are not the original owners..so would this change anything? Should I just not include the commercials or any other videos from youtube in my documentary? Thank you so much!!

  • Answer:

If it's for school, it does not violate copyright, unless if you market it, post it for the general public, claim it as your own, etc. ALWAYS give credit. Example: If you take images from a website and post these images on YOUR website without authorization, it's a copyright violation. If you take images off of a website to post on a school PowerPoint, it's not a copyright violation by law if you're showing this to your class, however, it depends on the teacher, if they'll allow you to take material from other sources, other than create your own.
