How to make flash player stream videos on ubuntu?

• Ok so this is kind of hard to explain but I cannot get flash player to run flash from websites, nor can I get it to stream videos off Youtube, BBC iPlayer or any other streaming websites. I have used Chromium and that is just the same. I am currently using Firefox but I dont think its anything to do with the web browser. The problem is consistent over web browsers. This has lead me to believe the problem is to do with ubuntu itself. For a temp fix i disabled the shockwave flash plugin on firefox which allowed me to run a select few videos from youtube which had no correlation to each other. The only solutions i could find when researching this problem is that its a web browser problem (which i disagree in my situation) and that the plugins are clashing (i disabled everything but shockwave and it still didnt work). So here is a list of the plugins i have running on firefox: Divx webplayer icedtea-web plugin quicktime plugin vlc multimedia plugin windows media player plugin shockwave flash plugin (which when i disabled allowed me to watch some youtube videos...why?) I must add that when i enable the shockwave flash plugin everytime i try to watch a video i either get notified that flash has crashed or just a black screen. Whilst writing this I tried to watch a video with the shockwave flash plugin enabled and it played 2 or 3 and then stopped working again. It just seems totally random and is really starting to annoy me now. Anyone experiencing a similar problem. Remember the problem is true across multiple web browsers (chromium and firefox).

  The trouble with Ubuntu is that you have to manually know how to load and install all the necessary drivers and codecs to make it work. It was for that reason mainly that Linux Mint was created, as a fork of Ubuntu. Install the latest Mint and everything will work 'from the box'. http://distrowatch.com/?newsid=07000
