Is the Associated Press' delegate count for the 2012 Republican Presidential Nomination really accurate?
-
I ask because it's my understanding: --that the delegate count by the Associated Press (and similar delegate counts from the U.S. of A. national mainstream media) is just a projection, not the real delegate count *1 AND *2 --that we won't know how many delegates each candidate remaining in the campaign trail really won until the Republican National Convention to be held in Tampa, Florida this coming August takes place --that the delegate process is still ongoing. Texas Republican Congressman Ron Paul, for example, just won a "do-over" caucus for St. Charles County, Missouri. This caucus picked 147 delegates to attend congressional district conventions to be held on April 21 and 147 delegates to attend the GOP Missouri state convention to be held this June. These meetings with then choose most of Missouri’s 52 delegates to the Republican National Convention in Tampa.*3 Also, a YouTuber known as "matlarson10" explains the delegate count in the video "True Updated Delegate Count - Ron Paul RISING!"*4 If my understanding is wrong or I'm misunderstanding a lot on this, please correct, educate, and/or enlighten me. Answer:
The majority of the media has been running with projected delegate counts based largely upon the result of straw polls and the word of RNC insiders. I've read those sources as well and found them to be compelling. I'm glad to see someone else asking that question. I'd also like to add that the naked attempt to marginalize Ron Paul's supporters as "pot-smoking college students" has now officially become irrelevant due its tiresome, blatant inaccuracy.

I question the accuracy of any AP report.

You are right that all reported delegate totals are estimates, not actual delegates. Some states have elections/caucuses that don't actually pick a single delegate, but they are an indicator and the different media groups use those to "project" delegate wins. But if you're thinking that Ron Paul can win the Republican nomination, you're smoking something illegal. He has absolutely no chance and it's very doubtful that he'll pick up enough delegates in the rest of the primaries to have any influence at the convention. Mitt Romney will be the Republican nominee.....we've all really known that from the beginning.

I agree with everything Daisy says above except to say that whatever you are smoking likely wouldn't be illegal anymore if Paul became President. Probably why you support him to begin with.
