How bad is arthritis pain?

Very bad Rheumatoid Arthritis pain in my knees?

• Hi there. I am 36 years old and have been diagnosed with Rheumatoid Arthritis (which I have inherited from both sides of my family). My knees hurt so bad today. I can't seem to find anything to give me some relief. This may be the worst they have ever been. Heat makes it worse - WAY worse. As far as seeing my doctor - he is on vacation (my Rheumy takes a lot of vacations!) but I do have an appointment with him next Friday, however, that doesn't help me today and this weekend. It is supposed to be beautiful weather this weekend and I hope to ride motorcycle on Sunday, so I'd like to feel better by then. Is there anything you do, as a home remedy, that I can try to relieve some of the pain today? I'm looking for something to help me quickly (ie. heat, ice, etc). I am on medications and am taking them as prescribed, religiously. But the flair in my knees is really bad. Thank you so much for taking the time to read my post and shoot me some helpful answers.   Do your have a rheumatology nurse or a GP you can contact? They can probably offer some suggestions. I always use ice and a gel called Voltaren Gel. It contains an anti-inflammatory and definitely helps me. If you're not on an anti-inflammatory already, you can take Advil or Aleve over the counter. If I have a really bad flare I take Prednisone. My doctor has prescribe me some to take when I flare badly. Start on 20-30mg, taper down and don't stop it suddenly. .....
